Taiwan, like any other country in the world, is experiencing a surge in grey population, and this has become one of the many crucial issues, which include demand for goods and services, housing, healthcare, social security, etc., facing the nation today.
As one of the main sectors serving the elderly in Taiwan, the dental industry plays a significant role in the development of good dental health for all. Nowadays, Taiwanese companies in the sector are creating more possibilities to expand into the global market.
According to recent custom data, exports of dental products from Taiwan grew from 34 million USD in 2010 to 44 million USD in 2015. And growth was partly due to the establishment of the Southern Taiwan Medical Device Industry Cluster (STMDIC).
The STMDIC is a program designed to encourage enterprises to participate in technology innovation and assist in market expansion of the medical device industry. It covers such areas as dental equipment systems, orthopedic medical devices, medical cosmetic devices and equipment, medical alloys, technology development of other biomedical devices, industry talent cultivation, R&D platform configuration, etc.
With the assistance of STMDIC, several dental enterprises have successfully developed their own dental implant system, which is a huge breakthrough for the dental industry in Taiwan.
Based on the Taiwan Patent Search System, there were a total of 71 published applications related to dental products in 2010. By 2015, the number had increased by 106% to 146.
Meanwhile, more and more Taiwanese companies are creating their own brands so as to compete with world famous brands like Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Zimmer, and so on. They are making efforts on R&D and product innovation for Taiwan to create a greater impact on the global dental product market.
As the cost of dental implants becomes more affordable, this is a good opportunity for the local dental implant market in the near future. Expect the Taiwanese companies to utilize different strategies to create more possibilities.
Without a doubt, dental product enterprises in Taiwan are ready for the global dental industry supply chain.
