Taiwan was listed in 11th place among 87 countries in a ranking of overall mobile data speeds by the wireless-mapping company OpenSignal, which is based in the United Kingdom.
From Nov. 1, 2016 to Jan. 31 this year, OpenSignal crowdsourced its data from more than 1 million people worldwide who have downloaded its app.
It tracked network quality, whether the users were inside or outside of a building, in a city or rural area, so their numbers represented "performance the way users experience it," the company said.
It found that Korea had the fastest mobile data download speed at 37.5 Mbps, followed by Norway, Hungary, Singapore, Australia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden and Japan, in that order.
At 20.49 Mbps, Taiwan was 11th, ahead of Canada, Belgium, Slovakia, Austria, Croatia, New Zealand, Finland, Switzerland, and Latvia, in that order.
