COMPUTEX 2017 - "Southbound" to Convergence India

Taiwan Government has launched the "New Southbound Policy" which calls for the development of comprehensive relations with ASEAN, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand, among which India is the most potential market in terms of market size. For this reason, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), organizer of COMPUTEX, has set up the COMPUTEX d&i awards showcase, promoting IoT related products, smart home and security products as well as high performance gaming peripherals from February 8th to 10th at Convergence India in New Delhi. Furthermore, TAITRA has also organized a COMPUTEX 2017 press conference on February 7th in New Delhi, looking to assist Taiwanese ICT companies expand into the Indian market as well as to further develop trade relationships and cooperation between the two countries.

 

The press conference hosted by TAITRA has attracted over 60 media and important industry associations and ICT companies. Important media include CAN.com, BW Business World, IANS, Navharat Times, Digital Terminal, DNA, Amar Ujala and more.

 

During the press conference, Mr. Thomas Huang, Deputy Director of Exhibition Dept., TAITRA, indicted that COMPUTEX 2016 was re-positioned to Building Global Technology Ecosystems which attracted over 40,000 international visitors from 178 countries to visit the show, a 4.7% growth from 2015. COMPUTEX 2017 is looking to top this success with 5 new themes on AI & Robotics, Innovation & Startups, Business Solutions, IoT Applications, and Gaming & VR. Exhibitors are expected to exceed 1,600 using over 5,010 booths. Well-known brands include Acer, Adata, ARM, ASRock, Asus, BenQ, Cooler Master, Dell, Delta, Gigabyte, G. Skill, Hisense, Intel, MediaTek, Micronics, Microsoft, MSI, NTT, Socionext, Supermicro, Thermaltake, and more.

 

Mr. Chung-Kwang Tien, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, stressed the specific connotations of the “New Southbound Policy” and also shared the importance of cooperation between both countries and working together toward a win-win future.

 

Mr. Mitesh Dave, President of Gujarat Computer Association, who has visited COMPUTEX more than 10 times, is very affirmative with Taiwan’s ICT hardware manufacturing and R&D abilities. The association will organize a group of 30 ICT companies to visit COMPUTEX 2017.

 

Mr. Scott Yang, Deputy Director of Strategic Marketing Department, TAITRA, declared TAITRA will organize the 4th annual gaming competition this year and participate at the Smart City India show, revealing the strategic plans and determination for entering the Indian market.

 

During the press conference, Mr. Wu of QNAP Systems, Inc., also a COMPUTEX exhibitor, shared with the audience his business experience in India. He claimed the number of buyers he came in contact during COMPUTEX 2016 was actually 10% more than 2015. Mr. Nil Bhowmik of Thermaltake, expressed Taiwan’s abilities, hard work and development in gaming industry cannot be underestimated; it’s the Asian Silicon Valley. Mr. Swapan Roy shared the innovative practices of COMPUTEX and its achievements that he has witnessed during the show.
